The Tenganan Pegringsingan Culture Festival is a unique cultural celebration held in one of Bali’s most well-preserved ancient villages. A highlight of the festival is the Pandan War Ritual (Mekare-kare), a sacred ceremonial battle performed to honor the village ancestors and Lord Indra, the Balinese God of War.
During the ritual, male participants engage in symbolic combat using bundled thorny pandan leaves as weapons and woven shields, representing ancient war clubs. The event is both a spiritual offering and a dramatic display of courage, tradition, and devotion, deeply rooted in the cultural fabric of the Tenganan community.
The festival offers visitors an extraordinary opportunity to witness an authentic Balinese ritual and experience the rich heritage of Bali Aga (indigenous Balinese) culture.
